Adopted in 1916 and issued to one man for every five men in a squad, the SAR Mk.1 was the first man-portable automatic rifle to greet Fordorsian troops. The rifle proved to be a massive aid to the infantry as their standard bolt action rifles, whilst accurate and fast firing in their hands, were unable to match against charging "Wasters" who many times would not go down after a single shot.
The rifle proved itself as a reliable and dependable weapon and has stayed in use with many regiments now using the 7.65x50mm cartridge, even after it was officially replaced by the SAR Mk.2, which is superior in many ways. The SAR Mk.1 is the longest serving weapon in Fordorsia's history, having a service time of over 90 years.
